That is a real constraint and it shapes everything else on this site: the scopes are small, the prices are fixed, the timelines are honest, and the work that does not fit gets turned down rather than squeezed in.
Why this exists
Five years building test systems taught me the same lesson twice. The first time, a rack that worked perfectly became unmaintainable the week the person who wrote it left. The second time, a seat license renewal cost more than the fix we needed and the fix got postponed anyway.
Both problems were architectural. Both were avoidable. Neither had anything to do with how good the original engineer was, which is the part people get wrong when they go looking for a better contractor instead of a better structure.
So Testral is built the other way round: one platform, written in Python, deployed on free driver runtimes, with an abstraction layer between the sequence and the instruments. Your engineers can read it. An instrument going end of life changes one file. Nobody has to renew anything.
The work is deliberately staged and deliberately small. A paid assessment first, a pilot before a build, a written checklist before an invoice. It is slower to sell that way and much harder to disappoint anyone.
